Amazon India on Wednesday said that its main product categories saw strong sales growth during the Prime Day event, while it added more new members to its subscription programme than in any other week.
Thousands of Amazon workers went on strike in Spain and Germany on Tuesday in protest at their working conditions as the retail giant staged its Prime Day sales event, unions said. It said it sold millions of devices that work on the Alexa voice-activated platform, with top-sellers including the Fire TV Stick streaming device and the Echo Dot speaker.
On Amazon.com it was not possible for many users to make purchases well into the second hour of the sale.
Amazon said small and medium-sized businesses had sold more than $1 billion in since Monday, when the event started.
Last year's Prime Day lasted 30 hours, with deals starting at 9 p.m. ET on July 10 and running through July 11.

Earlier this year, the company said it surpassed 100 million Prime members, but Amazon hasn't disclosed official numbers since.
Apparently this Amazon Prime Day didn't go to the dogs after all.
