USA officials had said they were finalizing plans to evacuate several hundred Syrian civil defense workers and their families from southwest Syria as Russian-backed government forces closed in on the Quneitra province.
"Now that it appears that the Assad regime is going to regain its hold over all of Syria, the worldwide community wanted to extricate them so that they wouldn't have to pay the price of the enormous hatred that the Syrian regime has for them", he said.
They were to be transferred to other buses run by local NGOs, before travelling further north to temporary camps in rebel-held areas in Idlib and Aleppo provinces, the Britain-based monitor said.
The "White Helmet" volunteers, who work to save civilians affected by the ongoing conflict in Syria, were reportedly trapped in the southwestern part of the country after an offensive by Syrian leader Bashar Assad's military.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday: "We are continuing to act in Syria to prevent Iranian entrenchment there".

The White Helmets, officially called the Syrian Civil Defence, operates a rescue service in rebel-held parts of Syria.

A Canadian Foreign Ministry statement on Saturday said the White Helmets "have witnessed vicious atrocities committed by the Assad regime and its backers".
