Trump tweeted in all caps, around midnight on Sunday, "To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE".
Rouhani's remarks on Wednesday were his first since Trump warned the Iranian leader of dire consequences for threatening the US.
The kind of threat that Trump made on Twitter on Sunday could have attracted penalty from the social network for any regular person as Twitter's policy bars users from making threats of violence on its platform. He's trying to show Iranians that the Trump administration backs those opposing the Iranian leadership.
