According to a statement from the office of chief Istanbul prosecutor Irfan Fidan, the journalist was the victim of a premeditated killing and his body was dismembered and disposed of. Turkey is demanding to know where Mr Khashoggi's body is and who gave the order for the operation to kill him.
Khashoggi's body was then dismembered and destroyed in yet another sign his killing was planned in advance, the prosecutor's office said.
"Experts on Saudi Arabia are virtually unanimous in saying that such an audacious mission must have been known about, and most likely was ordered, by the kingdom's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman", it said.
