The filing was an astonishing break from the bare-bones updates given by the special counsel's office in other cases where cooperators continue to help Mueller pursue Russian interference in the 2016 United States election and alleged coordination with the Trump campaign.
But in plea papers, Manafort agreed to cooperate "fully and truthfully" with the investigation conducted by the office of special counsel, including participating in interviews and debriefings, producing any documents in his control, testifying, and agreeing to delay sentencing until a time set by the government.
Both sides ask the judge to now move Manafort's case toward sentencing.

Manafort's lawyers dispute the claim that he has lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His attorneys say in the same filing that he believes he "provided truthful information".
A month later he pleaded guilty to two other criminal charges in a plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He remains jailed while awaiting his sentence.

The special counsel investigating alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. election said the breach meant there was now no reason to delay sentencing.

Manafort's legal team said he has "provided information to the government in an effort to live up to his cooperation obligations". Prosecutors said they will detail the "nature of the defendant's crimes and lies" in writing at a later date to the judge. Trump denies any campaign collusion and calls the investigation a political witch hunt. Except for one aspect of their bank fraud case, in which Manafort appeared to dangle access to the Trump campaign in exchange for a bank loan, the cases did not publicly describe Manafort's work as campaign chairman. In his separate Virginia case, Manafort's potential sentencing under federal guidelines has not yet been calculated, but prosecutors have previously said he could face as much as 10 years in prison on those charges.
The longtime Republican operative has yet to be sentenced on fraud charges after a jury in August convicted him of eight felony counts of filing false tax returns, failing to report foreign bank accounts and bank fraud. Sentencing in that case is scheduled for February 8.
