A series of recent deadly attacks in Afghanistan has highlighted the ongoing challenge to end a war now in its 18th year.

"Three U.S. service members were killed and three wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated November 27 near Ghazni city".

The incident took place on 27 November, Resolute Support, the official name of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation mission, said in a statement. The wounded service members and contractor were evacuated and are receiving medical care, according to the military.
