Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office has said US President Donald Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn cooperated with its probe into possible collusion between Trump's election campaign team and Moscow.
The deadline comes ahead of Flynn's December 18 sentencing and more than a year after he pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about reaching out to Russian government officials on Trump's behalf. That probe was later taken over by Mueller, who has brought indictments against Russians that detail a broad campaign to attempt to help Trump's candidacy and hurt Clinton's during the 2016 presidential campaign.
In September, a federal judge on set Flynn's sentencing for December 18, more than a year after the retired U.S. Army lieutenant general pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian Federation during the presidential transition. Trump responded to Cohen's lawyers' request for prison "time served" by tweeting that Cohen deserves "a full and complete sentence".
Trump said previous year that Flynn was a "fine man", but he had to dismiss his national security adviser 21 days into the new administration because he had misled Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with Russia's ambassador in Washington during the transition.

According to memos kept by former FBI Director James Comey, Trump allegedly tried to protect Flynn at the time, calling him a "good guy" and asking Comey to dismiss the investigation into Flynn's false statements.
Mueller's office did praise Flynn's character, saying his "record of military and public service distinguish him from every other person who has been charged as part the investigation".

Attacks on Cohen by Mr Trump via Twitter yesterday were apparently triggered by the disclosure that his former fixer had asked not to be jailed over financial crimes. At the time, the intelligence community was concerned the Russians could blackmail Flynn.

Flynn's false statements stemmed from a January 24, 2017, interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his interactions with Sergey Kislyak, Russia's then-ambassador to the USA, as the Obama administration was levying sanctions on the Kremlin in response to election interference.
Mr Flynn had been a fervent supporter of Mr Trump during the election campaign.
His sentencing was delayed for several months but even close confidantes have told ABC News they don't know why. The plea deal said Flynn's cooperation may include answering questions, taking government-administered polygraph examinations, providing sworn statements and participating in "covert law enforcement activities".
