The arrest of Indians trying to sneak into America has dropped by a whopping 56 per cent due to the construction of a concrete wall along the US-Mexico border in California, a top official has told President Donald Trump.
Trump will visit Calexico, California, for a tour of the border on Friday, just days after also announcing that he would end US aid to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, even though the money is created to discourage migration.
"Can't take you anymore".
The President's visit comes days after he gave Mexican authorities 12 months to severely limit the flow of illegal immigrants into their country or face new tariffs on produce and automobiles.
Trump has defended his use of executive power, though he acknowledged when he announced the move that legal challenges were likely. "I just went through a hoax".
"World class" Liverpool led by Salah again, title dream intact
Shane Long was outpacing Trent Alexander-Arnold in a couple of key moments. It is imperative for the English game that we have a title race.
Trump said the "whole ball game is cars", but also opened the possibility of imposing penalties on other products as well.
Although not as drastic as completely shutting the border, a 25 percent tariff on Mexico-made vehicles would still have a serious impact on the auto industry.
But the fence that Trump planned on touring is a 2-mile section that was a long-planned replacement for an older barrier, rather than a new wall.
President Donald Trump (C) and Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen (R) during a roundtable on immigration and border security at the Border Patrol Calexico Station in Calexico, Calif., on April 5, 2019.
He said that the walls have resulted in a decline in illegal immigrants.
Mr Trump met with a group of law enforcement and immigration officials, as well as members of Congress and his administration in Calexico.
House Democrats seek 6 years of Trump's tax returns
On Wednesday, Neal wrote a letter to the commissioner of the IRS requesting six years of Trump's tax returns, from 2013 to 2018. Democrats had obsessed for weeks over the language because they thought it would need to stand up to a court challenge.
Trump, during Friday's roundtable on the border, called his one-year warning on a southern U.S. border closure "fake news".
"In terms of any new tariffs, we would have to discuss them in terms of a relationship between two trade partners who are in the process of modernizing a trade agreement", she added, referring to NAFTA, the existing trade agreement that the new USMCA deal seeks to update.
And while the President has left open the possibility of closing the border down the road, he says he can keep the pressure on mexico in other ways.
Construction for that small chunk of fencing cost about $18 million, began in February 2018 and was completed in October.
And plans to renovate the barrier were started under the Obama administration in 2009.
Trump visited the border area in California on Friday, on his way to events in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. He then travelled to Las Vegas for another re-election fundraiser and an address to the Republican Jewish Coalition, which is backed by GOP mega-donor Sheldon Adelson.
